Early Years at GTAIS

A Joyful Beginning to Learning

At GTAIS, our Early Years program is designed to help young children grow, explore, and discover. We focus on developing the whole child—academically, socially, emotionally, and physically—so they can become confident learners with curiosity about the world around them.

Our learning approach is based on six key areas:

  • Language and Literacy
  • Numeracy
  • Motor Skills Development
  • Social and Emotional Development
  • Aesthetics and Creative Expression
  • Discovery of the World

These areas provide a strong foundation for future learning while helping children understand themselves and others.

How Children Learn in Early Years

Inquiry-Based and Play-Based Learning

Children learn best through play, exploration, and hands-on activities. At GTAIS, teachers create a safe and engaging environment where children can:

  • Ask questions
  • Try new ideas
  • Investigate and discover
  • Work together with friends
  • Learn through real experiences

Teachers act as guides and facilitators, helping children make connections and build their own understanding. Learning is meaningful, enjoyable, and suited to each child’s age and development.

A Learning Environment That Supports Every Child

Our classrooms allow children to:

  • Explore different learning styles
  • Work at their own pace
  • Share ideas and feelings
  • Practice teamwork
  • Respect different viewpoints

Children learn how things work, how to solve problems, and how to understand cause and effect. They begin to see themselves as capable learners.

Our Curriculum: Nurturing Early Learners (NEL) Framework – Singapore

(Ages 3–4)

GTAIS uses the Nurturing Early Learners (NEL) Framework, created by Singapore’s Ministry of Education. This internationally respected framework is known for its high quality and strong focus on whole‑child development.

Key Features of the NEL Framework

  • Holistic Development
Supports six areas of growth: literacy, numeracy, world discovery, motor skills, creative arts, and social‑emotional learning.

  • Child-Centred Approach
Activities are fun, meaningful, and suited to each child’s interests and needs.

  • Integrated Learning
Subjects are connected so children can understand how ideas fit together.

  • Language-Rich Environment
English is the main language of instruction, with Chinese introduced through songs, stories, and interactive play.

  • Play-Based Pedagogy
Play helps children think, imagine, cooperate, and solve problems.

  • Values and Character Education
Children learn kindness, respect, responsibility, and empathy through daily routines.

A Day in Early Years

Children enjoy many different activities, such as:

  • Morning Circle Time — greetings, songs, and sharing stories
  • Literacy Play — storytelling, picture books, and phonics games
  • Numeracy Activities — counting, shapes, puzzles, and patterns
  • Discovery Projects — nature walks, sensory play, and simple science experiments
  • Creative Arts — drawing, painting, music, dance, and dramatic play
  • Physical Development — outdoor play, obstacle courses, fine‑motor tasks
  • Chinese Language Time — songs, rhymes, and interactive stories
  • Snack & Social Time — practising self‑help skills and building friendships

Each activity is planned to support every child’s growth across all learning areas.
